The Indian Evidence Act (IEA) is a legislation that governs the admissibility, relevancy, and weight of evidence in Indian courts. It was enacted in 1872 and has undergone several amendments since then. The Act provides guidelines for the presentation and evaluation of evidence during the trial of civil and criminal cases.

Doctors, clinicians and healthcare workers are involved in medicolegal work on day-to-day basis for which they need to be aware of the Indian Evidence Act. Till now only a few selective sections of IEA were described in books during undergraduate and postgraduate training in medical school which was not sufficient to equip them with complete knowledge about IEA. Also medicolegal issues can be involved in any other related field. There are 11 chapters further divided into 167 sections fulfilling the strong need to have a book exclusively on this topic so as to discuss all the sections of IEA in brief.
