This IAP specialty series book focuses on rational antimicrobial practice in pediatrics. Rational antibiotic use requires accurate diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic use. Antibiotics have radically improved the prognosis of infectious diseases. Infections that were almost invariably fatal are now almost always curable if treatment is started early. Antibiotics are among our most valuable resources, but their use is threatened by the emergence of resistant strains of bacteria. This book comprised of 4 sections that include basics of microbiology and pharmacology, antimicrobial therapy of infections, case scenarios of antimicrobial therapy, and ready reckoner for antimicrobial drugs, which are further divided into 40 chapters. This book also includes chapter on antimicrobial resistance, basics of antimicrobial therapy, including escalation and de-escalation, new drugs in the pipeline, intra-abdominal infections and infective endocarditis. All chapters have been written and revised by well-known academicians and an effort has been made to include relevant latest information and guidelines.
